2026 CERTIFIED PARLIAMENTARIAN(sm) Application, Examination and Certification

To help you, AIP has prepared this registration process. It includes the following:

Accrediting Department Policies for Written Examinations for CERTIFIED PARLIAMENTARIAN, available for review here.
An application for this examination and payment information, available by clicking Register
An activity points calculation form, for submission with the examination application. The activity points form is viewable within the registration process and can also be found here.

*Please be aware that the date and time proposed for the exam, and monitor's name and contact information will be required for registration.

Activity points must be turned in one week prior to the opening of the Examination Date or the examination will be cancelled and fees will be forfeited. Questions about these policies may be addressed to accrediting@aipparl.org.

The written examination consists of three parts:

Multiple-choice questions
Short-answer questions
Narrative scripting exercise (you are given a series of actions/activities and must demonstrate your knowledge of the correct language to achieve the result requested)

Important information:

Each part is taken separately. Once completed, you cannot return to a prior part of the exam.
A short break of up to 15 minutes is permitted between parts.
The exam must be taken in one sitting.
There is a one-hour time limit for each section.
Retakes of individual sections are not permitted.
Activity points are reviewed by the Accrediting Department; additional documentation may be required.

The Accrediting Department determines whether the requirements for certification have been met. You may not use the “CERTIFIED PARLIAMENTARIAN,” or “CP” designations until you have been officially notified of your certification.

AIP Spring Practicum

Build on your knowledge and explore advanced concepts on parliamentary procedure and artificial intelligence through an immersive, interactive online learning experience, as well as practicing your presiding skills — all from the comfort of your home. The 2026 Spring Virtual Practicum will start on Friday, June 12, at 11:00 a.m. Eastern. Each session will be followed by the always-popular presiding lab sessions.

Recordings and handouts will be available for those who register.

The American Institute of Parliamentarians will offer a new, multi-faceted Teacher Certification Course beginning June 15, 2026.

The four-session course will begin with online self-paced instruction. This will be followed by a 2.5-hour virtual session held on July 12, 2026 to discuss your learning and to make preliminary decisions on your presentation (no more than 10 minutes). The course continues with an in-person presentation that will be held in conjunction with the 2026 Annual Session. A discussion time and lunch (included) follows the presentations. The course will end with a virtual gathering in August (TBD by class) where presentation will be made and a wrap-up seminar will be held.

Separate from the course, attendees will have the opportunity to attend a 90-minute online presentation in September 2026 that will be available to current T-holders.

Any Certified member of AIP (CP, CP-T, CPP, CPP-T) is eligible to take the course. AIP Members with NAP's Professional Registered Parliamentarian {PRP} credential may be allowed to take the course as space allows (please ensure to include your NAP ID Number during registration).

At least seven students will need to have registered for the course by June 22, 2026 in order for it to be conducted. No more than 14 students are allowed prior to registration closing on June 28, 2026 at 5:00 pm EDT.

Successful completion of the Teacher Certification Course requires taking the eLearning, attendance at all three classes, successful presentations as determined by the instructors, participation in class discussions, and submitting all required assignments.

The Teacher Certification course is recommended for:

Any certified member of AIP who wishes to become Teacher Certified. Following successful completion of the course, it will also be necessary to earn “teaching hours” demonstrating continued instruction in the field of parliamentary procedure.
Any member of AIP who is credentialed, including those with an existing T credential, who wishes to earn continuing education credit. Successful completion of the Teacher Certification course is one of several ways that a credentialed member can extend their period of certification. Additional activities will be required to maintain certification.
Any certified member of AIP or member of AIP credentialed as a PRP by NAP who, even though not a candidate for Teacher Certification, wishes to improve teaching skills in a controlled non-threatening environment. Certified members of AIP will be given preference.

Cancellation Policy: All Cancellation requests must be in writing. Cancellations can be made in full until June 30, 2026. Cancellations received after July 1, 2026 will be subject to a $75.00 cancellation fee (fee paid less $75). No refunds will be given for cancellation after Monday, July 13, 2026.

To help you, AIP has compiled this package. It includes the following:

Certification requires more than achieving a passing score on the examination. It also requires obtaining 30 hours of activities in three categories within the parliamentary profession. All activities must be fully documented. For example, activity as an instructor will be documented with a printed program or other supporting material verifying the activity, dates, and content. If you pass the examination and have documented your 30 activity points to the satisfaction of the Accrediting Department, you will be officially notified of your certification.

The Accrediting Department determines whether the requirements for certification have been met. You may not use the “CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL PARLIAMENTARIAN(TM)” or “CPP” designations until you have been officially notified that the credential has been awarded.
