AIP 2026 Presiding Practicum

March 15 - April 28, 2026

Online (Central Time)

Choose the Level and Time That Fits You

Members may register for any level and any scheduled session time that aligns with their goals. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced sessions are distinct experiences, each with its own expectations and learning outcomes.

  • Beginner sessions focus on foundational presiding skills using both Robert’s Rules of Order and the AIP Standard CodeChoose this level if you have limited presiding experience, you are not confident about the presiding experience you have, or if you want very precise instruction to help prepare for a credentialing exam. This level focuses on main and subsidiary motions, with a few privileged motions (recess and adjourn) also covered.

  • Intermediate sessions concentrate on presiding under the participant’s chosen authority, with progressively more complex procedural challenges. Point of Order, Appeal, Suspend the Rules, Reconsider, and Secondary Amendments are covered, along with other incidental motions make an appearance at this level.

  • Advanced sessions still concentrate on the participant’s chosen authority, with progressively more complex procedural and leadership challenges. Bring Backs (RONR) and Specific Purpose Main Motions (AIPSC) are in this level, which can sometimes focus on the theory of parliamentary procedure as much as the presiding.

Who Should Attend

These practicums are ideal for those who:

  • Are new to presiding and want structured, low-pressure practice

  • Preside occasionally and want to build fluency and confidence

  • Are preparing for leadership roles, teaching, or professional work

  • Want targeted feedback rather than lecture-based training

  • Are preparing for a credentialing exam where presiding or script-writing skills will be tested
